for the S-VOL. Then, write I/O is allowed to the S-VOL while the pair is split. In this instance, S-VOL
and P-VOL track maps keep track of differential data and are used to resynchronize the pair.
Logical units on the local and remote systems must be defined and formatted prior to pairing.
Data path
Continuous Access Synchronous operations are carried out between local and remote systems
connected by a Fibre Channel interface. The data path, also referred to as the remote copy
connection, connects ports on the local P9500 system to the ports on the remote system. The ports
are assigned attributes that allow them to send and receive data.
One data path connection is required, but two or more independent connections are recommended
for hardware redundancy. A maximum of eight paths per control unit (CU) can be used.
Consistency groups
A Continuous Access Synchronous consistency group is a user-defined set of volume pairs.
Continuous Access Synchronous pairs that are(hereafer Cnt Ac-S pairs) and Cnt Ac-S Z pairs can
be created in the same primarya designated consistency group. You may specify a consistency
group to create or operate Cnt Ac-S pairs, using RAID Manager (RM). Also, you may specify a
consistency group to create or operate Cnt Ac-S Z pairs, using Business Continuity Manager. If
you specify consistency group for Cnt Ac-S pairs and secondary systems, on which copy operations
are performed simultaneously,Cnt Ac-S Z pairs, you can issue a command for each group and
also can ensure the consistency of these pairs in whichthe pairs' status remains consistent.same
group.
WhenIf Cnt Ac-S pairs and Cnt Ac-S Z pairs are registered in the same group, you issue a command,
it is executed on allcan ensure the consistency between Cnt Ac-S pairs and Cnt Ac-S Z pairs in the
same group. The pairs' pair status changes atIf only Cnt Ac-S pairs or only Cnt Ac-S Z pairs are

group. For further information on group options.a Cnt Ac-S Z pair, see the HP P9000 Continuous
Access Synchronous for Mainframe Systems User Guide.
You can ensure consistency of data of volumes in the same DKC. Continuous Access Synchronous
allows you to configure up to 128 consistency groups (00-7F) for each MCU.
For details about creating pairs and specifying consistency groups for Continuous Access
Synchronous, and the consistency group operation, see the HP P9000 RAID Manager User Guide,
HP P9000 RAID Manager Reference Guide or the HP P9000 Business Continuity Manager User
Guide.
