7 Troubleshooting
This chapter provides information and instructions for troubleshooting an ESAM system.
ESAM troubleshooting
This section lists many common problems along with corrective actions that can be taken.
NOTE: The Remote Web Console computer displays error messages and error codes for error
conditions that occur during the ESAM operations. For information about the error codes, see the
HP P9000 Remote Web Console Messages.
General troubleshooting
The following table provides a list of general errors.
Table 9 General ESAM troubleshooting
Corrective actionError
The Remote Web Console computer
hangs, or ESAM operations do not
function properly.
Make sure that the problem is not being caused by the Remote Web
Console computer or Ethernet hardware or software. Restart the Remote
Web Console computer—this does not affect storage system operations.
Make sure that ESAM requirements and restrictions are met.
Make sure that the primary and secondary systems are powered on and
fully operational (NVS, cache).
Check all input values and parameters to make sure that you entered
the correct information in Remote Web Console (for example, secondary
system S/N, path parameters, P-VOL and S-VOL IDs).
If you are using Performance Monitor, refrain from using it.
Please call HP Technical Support for assistance. An initiator channel-enable LED indicator
(on the P9500 control panel) is off or
flashing.
Make sure the correct CU is selected. The status of the pairs and/or data paths
are not displaying correctly.
Resolve the error and then try the operation again. An ESAM error message appears on the
Remote Web Console computer.
Check the path status on the RCU Status dialog box and resolve the error.
For details, see the HP P9000 Continuous Access Synchronous User Guide.
The data path status is not Normal.
Check the pair status on the Detailed Information dialog box. See
Table 10 (page 58).
The pair is suspended.
The primary or secondary system issues a SIM when a failure occurs in the
quorum disk. After checking the SIM, review “Disaster recovery operations”
Quorum disk failure
(page 47), and specifically, see “Recovery from quorum disk failure
(page 52).
CAUTION: Follow the described steps to recover from failures. If you do
not follow them, host I/Os may stop.
