Downloading the Audit Log File
To download the audit log le, a storage administrator can select either the Audit:Normal button
(
), the Audit:Warning button ( ), or the Audit:Wraparound
(
) button from the upper right of the XP Remote Web Console main pane (see
Figure 44). You can then specify the destination to save the le.
The audit log contains the operation history for all actions performed from XP Remote Web Console,
including what operations were performed, by whom, and when. This can be an important security tool
or simply a means to investigate the cause of potential errors.
Only the storage administrator can download the audit log le. The Audit Log Administrator Role need to
be set to Modify or View for the user account of that storage administrator.
NOTE:
You can transfer the audit log of the arrays to syslog servers. You can also download a system
information le (syslog.log), which contains the audit log that is in the same format as the
audit log transferred to the syslog server. For detailed information on the syslog operation, see
Checking the Audit Log by Using the Syslog Server (Syslog Pane)” on page 103.
The audit log le has the following conventions:
File type:The audit log le is a generic term for the login information le (login.log) and the
setting information le (audit.log). These les are compressed to the tgz le when they are
downloaded. The default le name is AuditYYYYMMDD.tgz where YYYYMMDD indicates the
year, month, and day that the le was downloaded. You can specify the destination to save the
le and the le name when you download it.
NOTE:
The linefeed codes for Windows (CR + LF) are used in the audit log le; therefore, some text editors
will not display the linefeed codes accurately.
NOTE:
To create the *.tgz le, the directory structure is rst archived using the tar command and then
compressed using the gzip command. To decompress the *.tgz le, you will need to use a tool that
supports both tar and gzip commands. For instructions on how to decompress the le, refer to the
manual or online help of the le-compression and extraction tool that you are using. You can restore
items using the downloaded .tgz les. To do so, use the archive restore check box.
