You cannot delete pool-VOLs that have previously been registered in a pool. To decrease pool capacity,
you need to create another pool or delete the pool-VOLs themselves, and recreate a pool.
NotesonSwitching Offthe PowerSupply
Before you switch off the power supply while XP Thin Provisioning is running, stop the host I/O operations
rst. When you switch off the power supply, the management table on the shared memory for XP Thin
Provisioning is backed up to the hard disk drive in the SVP. When you switch on the power supply, the
management table in the hard disk drive is recovered to the shared memory, so you can use the storage
system in the same status as when you switched off the power supply.

Installing XP Thin Provisioning
The installation procedure for XP Thin Provisioning is described below.
1. Your HP service representative will install the additional shared memory for the V-VOL
management area. This is separate from the shared memory for XP Snapshot.
2. Make sure that you have sufcient license capacity for the actual V-VOL management area. For
specic instructions on installing license capacity, see the HP StorageWorks XP24000 Remote
Web Console User's Guide.
3. Add parity groups, and add the volumes that will be used as pool-VOLs. You can use volumes in
existing unused parity groups, in which case you would delete the path denition and perform
an LDEV format. For more detailed information about the LDEV format, see the HP StorageWorks
XP24000 Virtual LVI/LUN (VLL) and Volume Shredder User's Guide.
4. Create the pools. For specic instructions, see “Creating Pools” on page 44.

6. Associate the V-VOLs to the pools. For specic instructions, see
