This chapter describes troubleshooting problems when using XP Thin Provisioning and where to call.
XP Thin Provisioning Troubleshooting
Table 17 on page 59 provides troubleshooting instructions for XP Thin Provisioning operations.

Problems Causes and Sol
utions
Cannot install XP Thin Provisioning.
Cause:
• Shared memory for the V-VOL management area is not
installed.
Solution:
• Call HP technical support and check if the shared memory
for the V-VOL management area is installed.
Pool usage rate exceeds the threshold.
Causes:
• Too many V-VOLs are associated with the pool, or too much
data is stored in the pool.
• Thecapacity of thepool is insufficient.
• The threshold of the pool is too low.
Solutions:
• Add some pool-VOLs to increase the capacity of the pool.
See “Creating Pools”onpage44.
• Set a larger value for the threshold of the pool. See
“Changing the Pool Information”onpage 45.
In addition, after the problems are solved, you need to
complete the SIMs. If you do not complete the SIMs, no new
SIM can occur even if the usage rate exceeds the threshold
again. For details about the procedure to complete SIMs, see
“Managing Pool-Related SIMs”onpage61.
Note
: You need unused volumes to add pool-VOLs. If there
are no unused volumes, you need to create new volumes or
ask HP technical support to add hard disks. Therefore, it may
take time to solve the problem.
V-V
OL usage rate exceeds the threshold.
Cause
:
• Too m
uch data is stored in the V-VOL. This may cause a
decr
ease in the capacity of the pool.
Solu
tions:
• If t
he free space for the pool tends to be insufficient, copy
the
V-VOL data to a normal volume and delete the relevant
V-V
OL.
• Ad
d some pool-VOLs to increase the capacity of the pool.

• Ra
