Viewing system information4–8
See Section 3.8 for more information about the starting, recovering, and running states.
If an MDS or OST service is a software RAID device mirrored over two LUNs, the show filesystem
command indicates if there are any problems with either of the LUNs. If the RAID device is operating
normally, the output from the show filesystem command looks similar to the previous example.
However, if the RAID device is not operating normally, the show filesystem command will show the
device status in brackets, as shown in the following example:
sfs> show filesystem
Name State Services
------------- -------------- ----------------------------------
data started mds3: running(raid: degraded),
ost[10-15]: running
The raid: states are described in Table 4-4.
running The service is running. The reconnection process has finished and all requests are being
handled normally.
shutdown The file system service has just shut down but has not yet completely unloaded. The state
will change to stopped within a few seconds.
starting The service has just been started.
stopped The service is stopped. The associated file system software is unloaded.
stopping The file system service is in the process of being stopped. The state will change to
stopped within a few seconds.
unload-failed The service has been in the unload-stalled state for at least 15 minutes. The service
will probably not stop. You need to reboot the server to recover from this situation.
When a service is in the unload-failed state, other services are blocked from starting
or stopping on the server.
unload-stalled The service was stopping and is in the process of unloading, but has not completed
within a reasonable time. The service may eventually finish unloading and go to the
stopped state. If so, there is no need to take any action. However, if the service remains
in the unload-stalled state for several minutes, consider rebooting the server.
When a service is in the unload-stalled state, other services are blocked from
starting or stopping on the server.
Table 4-4 RAID device states
State Description
degraded One of the LUNs over which the service is mirrored has failed or is missing. For example,
if SFS20 storage is used, this status indicates that the SFS20 storage array has failed (or
the power to the array has been turned off). The service can continue to operate
normally. However, you should correct the problem as soon as possible.
rebuilding The RAID device has been repaired; however, one of the component LUNs is still
resynchronizing with the other component LUN. The service can continue to operate
normally.
start-failed The LUN used by the service cannot be accessed. This state is usually caused by the
failure of an SFS20 array. If the service is mirrored over two LUNs, neither of the LUNs
can be accessed if the device is in this state.
