A
Administrati
ve Network
The p ri vate network within the XC system that is used for administrativ e operations.
admin branch
The half (bran ch) of the Administrative Network that co ntains all of the general-purpose admin
ports to the nodes o f the XC system.
B
base image
The collection of files an d directories that represents the common files and configuration data
thatareappliedtoallnodesinanXCsystem.
branch switch
A component of the Administrative N etwork. A switch that is uplinked to the root switch and
receives p hysical connections from m ultiple nodes.
C
cluster
A set of independent computers combined into a unified system through system software and
networking technologies.
cluster alias
The external cluster ho st name supported by LVS, which enab les inbound connections without
having to know individual nodes names to connect and log in to the XC system.
Console Branch
A component of the Administrativ e Network. The ha lf (branch) of the Administrative N etwork
that contains all of the co nsole ports of the nodes of the XC system. This branch is establish ed
as a separate branch to enable some level of partitioning of the Administrative Network t o
support specific security needs.

DHCP
Dynamic Host Con trol Protocol. A protocol that dynamically allocates IP addresses to
computers on a local area network.

E
EFI
Extensible Firmware Interface. Defines a model for the interface between operating systems
and Itanium-based platform firmware. The interface consists of data tables that contain
platform-related information, plus boot and run-time service calls that are available to the
operating system and its loader. Togeth er, these provide a standard env iro nment for booting an
operating system and running preboot a pplications.
