image server
A node specifically designated to hold images that will be distributed to one or more client
systems. In a stand ard XC installation, the head no de acts a s the image server and golden client.
Integrated Lights Out
See iLO
interconnect
The private network within the XC system that is used primarily for user file access and for
communications within applications.
interconnect
Provides high-speed connectivity b etween the nodes. It is used for message passing an d remote
memory access capabilities for parallel applications.
Internet address
A uniqu e 32-bit number that iden tifies a host’s connection to an Internet network. An I nternet
address is commonly represented as a network number and a host number and takes a form
similar to the following: 192.168.0.1.
I/O node
A node t hat has more storage available than the majority of server nodes in an XC system.
This storage is frequently externally connected storage, for example, SAN attached storage.
When configured properly, an I/O server nod e makes the ad ditional storage avail a ble as global
storage within the XC system.
IPMI
Intelligent Platform Ma nagem ent Interface. A self-contained hardware technology available on
HP ProLiant DL145 servers that allow s remote mana gem ent of any node within a system.
L
Linux Virtual Server
See LVS
load file
A file containing the names of m ultiple executables that are to be launched simultaneously by
a single command.
Load Sharing Facility
See LSF
local storage
Storage that is available or accessible from one node in the XC system.
LSF
Load Sharing Facility. The batch system resource manager on an HP XC system. LSF places a
job i n a queue and allows it to run when the necessary resources become available. LSF manages
just one resource, wh ich is the total num ber of processo rs designated f or batch processing.
LSF can also run i nteractive batch jobs and interactive jobs. An LSF interactive batch job
allows you to interact with the application while still taking advantage of LSF scheduling
policies and features. An LSF interactive job is run without using LSF batch processing features
but is dispatched immediately by LSF on the LSF execution host.
See also LSF execution host
LSF execution host
The node where LSF runs. A users job is submitted to the LSF execution host. Jobs are
launched from the LSF execution host and are executed on o ne or more compute nodes.
